The seams and perimeter edges are among the areas that deserve the most attention.
Temperature fluctuations, heavy traffic, poor drainage, insufficient adhesive application or inadequate installation can eventually cause:
- Seam opening
- Edge lifting
- Local wrinkles
- Adhesive failure
- Turf movement
For residential installations, a monthly visual inspection is usually practical.
For sports facilities, inspection should be more frequent.
If a small seam defect is identified early, localized repair may prevent it from developing into a larger installation problem.
Pay particular attention to:
- Seams between turf rolls
- Corners
- Perimeter edges
- High-traffic areas
- Areas around drainage points
- Areas exposed to repeated furniture movement
Any repair should use adhesives and seam systems compatible with the specific backing material.
Remove Stains as Soon as Possible
Different stains require different cleaning methods.
Drinks and food
Usually, water is sufficient for fresh spills. A mild, neutral-pH detergent can be considered for more persistent contamination.
Chewing gum
Cooling or freezing the material can make removal easier. Avoid aggressive pulling that could damage the yarn.
Oil and grease
Use a turf-compatible neutral cleaning solution and rinse thoroughly.
Strong solvents such as acetone or gasoline should generally be avoided because they may damage polymer yarns, backing materials or adhesives.
Pet waste
Solid waste should be removed promptly.
Urine-contaminated areas can be rinsed with clean water, while an appropriate enzyme-based cleaner may be used where odor control is necessary.
For pet applications, selecting a turf system with appropriate drainage and antimicrobial or odor-control characteristics can further simplify maintenance.
