Several common cleaning practices can unnecessarily shorten the service life of artificial turf.
Avoid excessively hard brushes
Steel brushes and abrasive tools can damage yarn surfaces and protective finishes.
Soft nylon brushes are generally more appropriate.
Avoid aggressive solvents
Gasoline, acetone, paint thinner, and similar chemicals may cause swelling, discoloration, embrittlement, or adhesive damage depending on the material formulation.
Avoid excessive water pressure
A pressure washer should not be aimed directly at seams or the backing at very close range.
The appropriate pressure depends on the turf construction and manufacturer’s specifications.
Do not allow organic contamination to remain for long periods
Pet waste, food residue, and other organic materials can produce odor and create a more difficult cleaning problem when allowed to dry and accumulate.
Do not ignore drainage
If water remains on the surface after cleaning, investigate the drainage system rather than repeatedly increasing washing pressure.
